EDGAR ALLAN POE
Responsible for irrevocably equating ravens with the word “nevermore”, the 19th century author Edgar Allan Poe's name is synonymous with horror, the macabre, and the gothic. Opting to write in an opposing vein to the optimistic Transcendentalists of his age, Poe instead wrote dismal grotesqueries about dead women, teeth, black cats, and detectives. His influence upon poetry, science fiction, and the short story is undeniable – relics and reflections of Poe bruise the canon of American literature. A dauntless, if drunk, writer, Poe believed that every literary work should be executed in a manner that expresses a single intention, and that this one affecting point should be just beneath the surface – a subtle but mighty haunting of meaning. Thusly have E.A. Poe's words trespassed the veils of literature and our minds alike, plaguing our hearts and firmly installing him in the firmament of the underworld.
This design is a collage representing some of his work with the authors portrait in the center printed with grey ink.
